Recipe for THE Dipping Sauce for most Vietnamese Dishes

The Perfect Blend of Sweet, Salty, Sour, and Spicy

Nuoc Cham is the ultimate accompaniment to Banh Xeo, as it perfectly balances the dish's rich and crispy texture with its sweet, salty, sour, and spicy flavors. Plus, it's incredibly easy to make at home!

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 red chili, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup warm water

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the fish sauce, lime juice, and sugar until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Add the minced garlic and chopped chili to the bowl and stir well.
  3. Gradually add the warm water while stirring the mixture.
  4. Taste the sauce and adjust the flavors to your liking. You can add more fish sauce for saltiness, lime juice for sourness, sugar for sweetness, or chili for spiciness.
  5. Let the sauce sit for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

That's it! Your homemade Nuoc Cham dipping sauce is ready to be enjoyed with your Banh Xeo. The sauce can also be used as a condiment for other Vietnamese dishes like spring rolls, grilled meat, or noodle salads. Store any leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
